AAnglicare is offering a Brain Training course to Illawarra residents over the age of 65, to help them enhance their memory and maximise their health and wellbeing.
The four-day course is held once a week for four weeks and is normally valued at $650 but is exclusively available through Anglicare for only $60, thanks to a government subsidy.
“Staying socially active and mentally stimulated are important steps to prevent dementia,” says Anglicare’s Director of Dementia and Clinical Research, Associate Professor Kathryn Goozee.
The course is taught by expert clinicians from the KaRa Institute of Neurological Diseases, in partnership with Anglicare.
“Course participants will increase their understanding of how memory works in the brain, what can go wrong with it and what is normal age-related memory decline.
“Additionally, they will learn practical and effective memory strategies to help remember different types of information,” says Associate Professor Goozee.
Participants must be over 65 years of age and registered with My Aged Care to be eligible for the Brain Training Course. Anglicare can help you with the My Aged Care registration process. This course is not available for people who have already received a diagnosis of dementia or those who are on a Home Care Package.
“Anglicare is pleased to offer this program in the Illawarra to help older residents in the region stay mentally active and socially engaged as they age,” says Anglicare at Home Senior Manager Julie Butler.
The Brain Training Course will be held at Anglicare’s Social and Wellness Centre at 29A McGrath St, Fairy Meadow NSW 2519 on 2, 9, 16 and 23 March. A second course will be held on March 23, 30, April 6 and 20.
There are 16 spots available in each course and registration is essential. To register or find out more information call (02) 8886 9475 or email [email protected]
