Anglicare is proposing to develop a residential aged care facility in Dapto, to help meet a need for suitable seniors’ accommodation in the Illawarra.
The proposed development will be delivered in two stages, with the first stage to rebuild the residential care home. The second stage will build the community care centre, activities room, café and other recreational facilities. It is currently estimated that the total capital investment will be more than $30 million in the Dapto community.
“Wollongong and Dapto both have an older population that is rapidly increasing. There has been a 31 per cent increase in the number of people over 65 in Dapto since 2001 and the rate of growth is considerably higher than the Sydney average,” explains Dean Cotter, Anglicare Development Manager.
“The proposed Residential Aged Care Home will provide 111 beds for seniors in the community. An increase of 23 beds from the current home located on site.
“No residents will be required to leave the current residential aged care facility. Many will be relocated to other rooms on site while the redevelopment takes place.
“Anglicare has a great opportunity to meet the needs of a rapidly ageing population in Dapto. By creating suitable accommodation, wellbeing and care services for older people living in this area, we will not only provide a modern facility with easy access to the community, but the opportunity for them to remain in an area they already love and call home.”
